Student Leadership Awards and Scholarships

The Office of Student Activities hosts a annual Leadership Reception that honors individuals for their leadership on campus and in the community. 

The 2024 Leadership Reception will be held Wednesday, April 10 at 4pm in Union 240.

Information about the awards and links to nomination forms can be found below. Questions about eligibility may be directed to Christina Kerns, Assistant Director of Student Activities at 660-543-4007 or osa@ucmo.edu.

Nominations are due Wednesday, April 3 by 5pm.

Awards & Scholarships

Outstanding Student Leader

This award is an opportunity for you to honor the service a student has done to better the UCM community, in the classroom or through their involvement. They are students you feel have gone beyond their everyday responsibilities and are good ambassadors of UCM. Nominations can be made by faculty, staff or fellow students. You can nominate more than one student for this award.

 ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Be an exemplary student.
  2. Take an active role in their academic and/or extracurricular involvement.
  3. Make UCM a better community through their contributions.

Emerging Leader Award

The Emerging Leader Award will be given to a first or second year student who has shown great leadership potential throughout their time at UCM. This student will be heavily involved throughout campus and portray UCMs mission and values. This individual will noticeably demonstrate initiative, motivation, and potential for continued leadership on campus. 

ELIGIBILITY: 
Current first or second year student who is a member of at least one Recognized Student Organization. Students must have carried at least nine credits during both the fall and spring semesters with a minimum grade point average of 2.25, and are in good academic standing. 

CRITERIA: 
The criteria for selection will be based on the individual's campus involvement in Recognized Student Organizations, their growth as a leader, the impact they have made in their RSOs, and their commitment to furthering leadership at UCM.

Established Leader Award

The Established Leadership Award will be given to a senior who has shown and developed their leadership skills throughout their time at UCM. This student will have been heavily involved throughout campus and has encouraged others to get involved. This individual will have publicly shown campus involvement and will have made a substantial contribution to the UCM community. 

ELIGIBILITY: 
Current UCM of senior academic standing and has been involved in at least one Recognized Student Organization for the entirety of their time at UCM. Students must have carried at least six credits during both the fall and spring semesters with a minimum grade point average of 2.25, and are in good academic standing. 

CRITERIA:
 The criteria for selection will be based on the individual’s campus involvement in Recognized Student Organizations, their growth as a leader, the impact they have made in their RSOs, and their encouragement of others to get involved. 

Officer of the Year Award

The Officer of the Year may hold any position on the executive board of a Recognized Student Organization. The officer should go above and beyond their expected responsibilities and act as a role model for the student body.

ELIGIBILITY: 
Current UCM student who has held an executive board position for at least one entire semester of a Recognized Student Organization. Students must have carried at least six credits during both the fall and spring semesters with a minimum grade point average of 2.25, and are in good academic standing.   

CRITERIA: 
The criteria for selection will be based on the individual's ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner, connect and develop relationships with the student body, and empower others. 

Programmers Hall of Fame Award

Students/Organizations nominated for this award should best exemplify the ideals of presenting education, recreation, cultural or entertaining programs for the University community. The following criteria have been established for this award, and nominations are invited from students and advisors of University of Central Missouri recognized student organizations.

ELIGIBILITY:
Current UCM students who are members of at least one Recognized Student Organization may be nominated. Students must have carried at least six credits during both the fall and spring semesters, have a minimum grade point average of 2.25, and are in good academic standing. Any member of the University community may nominate individuals for this award. In case of a tie, the nominee with the higher GPA will be selected.

Recognized Student Organizations are also eligible to receive this award. Organizations must be in good standing with the Office of Student Activities.

CRITERIA: 
The criteria for selection will be for exemplary distinguished service or achievement which demonstrably improved campus programming during the academic year. This service or achievement should exceed the normal duties of any position the student may hold.

Advisor of the Year Award

This award is given to a student organization advisor for exemplary service. The following criteria have been established for this award and nominations are invited from student organization members.

ELIGIBILITY:
UCM faculty and staff members who are listed as an advisor of a Recognized Student Organization may be nominated. People who have student organization advising responsibilities as part of their employment duties are not eligible for this award. Any member of a recognized student organization may nominate someone for this award.

CRITERIA: 
The criteria for selection will be achievement above and beyond the call of duty. Such distinguished service could be significant activity or a pattern of exemplary service over the advisor's year(s) at UCM while advising a student organization(s). Selection will be based on the quality of the information submitted not on the number of nominations submitted for an individual.

Helen Gilbert Leadership Scholarship

Helen Gilbert served University of Central Missouri as the Director of the University Union and later became Director of Student Activities. During her tenure at UCM, she had a strong interest in the development of student leaders and established this scholarship as a way to honor outstanding individuals in the area of campus and community leadership. The Helen Gilbert Leadership Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship to an undergraduate student who will be returning to the University of Central Missouri for the fall semester following their selection.

Volunteer of the Year

This award honors a volunteer who has made significant differences in the surrounding and/or University community. The following criteria have been established for this award, and nominations are invited from students, faculty and staff of the University of Central Missouri.

ELIGIBILITY: 
Currently enrolled University of Central Missouri students who have a past history of volunteer work with various groups may be nominated. Students must have carried at least six credits during both the fall and spring semesters, have a minimum grade point average of 2.25, and are in good academic standing. Any member of the University community may nominate individuals for this award. In case of a tie, the nominee with the higher GPA will be selected.

CRITERIA: 
The criteria for selection will be for exemplary volunteer service and for someone who demonstrates a spirit of volunteerism and community service.
