The Leadership Foundations Certificate was created to give students the opportunity to learn about the five exemplary leadership practices introduced by Barry Posner and James M. Kouzes, while participating in interactive workshops that allow students to exercise their leadership skills and test their perceptions of the world around them.
Participation is open to all students currently enrolled in courses who are interested,
free of charge, with the understanding that this certificate is time-sensitive to
your time at UCM. This means you can complete the certificate in as little as one
semester or over the course of your time at UCM, whether that is in two years or four
years.
By completing this certificate, you will have enhanced your leadership skills, added
the certification to your resume, and had it recognized on your co-curricular transcript
on Central Connect. Additionally, you will be celebrated at our Annual Leadership
Reception here on campus.
This can be done through Leadership Lunches, where we invite community members to discuss relevant leadership topics while serving lunch, or through other leadership-related events that have been submitted and approved by the Office of Student Activities.
After engaging in all the workshops and attending two leadership-focused campus events,
the final step in the process is to complete the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI).
Additionally, you will be asked to submit a brief reflection, where you'll have the
opportunity to share insights about your personal growth and reflect on your experience
throughout the program.
This certificate can be earned at your own pace, with events offered each semester. You have the flexibility to complete it in a single semester or over the course of your years here on campus.
Your progress is tracked through Central Connect. When you sign in at each workshop, your attendance and participation will be automatically recorded and credited.
To receive credit for the two leadership-related events, students must report their attendance using the form on Central Connect.
