David Aaberg has served as Director of the Jazz-Commercial program at UCM since 1986. He holds a B.A. and M.M. in composition from Central Washington University, and a D.M.A. in composition from the University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, while at the University of Texas, he studied trumpet with Raymond Crisara.
Dr. Aaberg is an active performer in the Kansas City area both on trumpet and piano. He performs regularly with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, the Louis Neal Big Band, the Boulevard Big Band, the Jim Lower Jazz Orchestra, and numerous other groups. He also serves as one of the staff arrangers for the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra. Many of his charts appear on recordings by Kansas City’s Boulevard Big Band, the Trilogy Big Band, and the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra.
