Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Studies

From studying human societies of the ancient past and present to learning how to take action in your community, explore the history and enduring patterns of our social and political structures in the University of Central Missouri’s Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Studies.

No matter which degree program you pursue at UCM, our Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Studies will empower you to understand and address our society’s most critical issues.

Explore culture and community in these areas of study

  • Anthropology: From excavations and lab work to ethnographic interviews and beyond, studying anthropology will teach you to think critically, analyze data and write effectively, preparing you for jobs in nearly any career field.
  • Social Science: Examine social studies as an academic field and practice — and gain instructional strategies to teach it. These courses are particularly beneficial if you wish to work in a school classroom.
  • Sociology: Delve into how our social environment influences our attitudes and behaviors. Your studies will include a wide range of topics, such as socialization, deviance and social change, and allow you to satisfy an interest in research, theory or the application of knowledge in people’s lives.
