What you will study
The manufacturing sector needs highly trained individuals to lead teams and oversee
efforts throughout the industry.
From computer-aided design to quality control, computer numerical control to process
design, UCM’s Manufacturing minor will give you the know-how you need to effectively
manage and run manufacturing facilities.
You’ll combine practice with theory in four core courses:
- Computer-Integrated Manufacturing
- Engineering Material Science
- Introduction to Manufacturing Processes
- Machine Tool Technology
Once you’ve completed the core courses, you can personalize your minor with electives
in AutoCAD Applications, Inspection and Quality Control, Robotics and Automation,
Technical Writing and more. You’ll gain valuable added expertise and experience for
your career in manufacturing.
Unique learning opportunities in manufacturing
From the classroom to the lab, you’ll have ample hands-on learning opportunities throughout
the UCM Manufacturing minor program:
- State-of-the-art facilities: As a UCM student, you’ll enjoy access to research and teaching labs equipped with
cutting-edge learning technology. Students in our Manufacturing minor work in up to
15 different labs, including specialized automation and robotics, hydraulics and pneumatics,
precision machining and rapid prototyping facilities.
- On-campus student organizations: UCM is home to more than 185 diverse student organizations, giving you ample opportunities
to enhance your learning as you connect and network with your classmates. Many of
our Manufacturing minors join the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, which offers
resources for manufacturers, promotes advanced manufacturing technology and supports
the development of a skilled workforce here in Missouri and beyond.
- Special projects: As a Manufacturing minor, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in the NASA Human
Rover Challenge, a human-powered vehicle designed and fabricated by UCM students to
traverse simulated lunar and Martian terrain.

Each year, our Manufacturing minors typically enjoy a high success rate of finding
jobs within six months of graduating.
You’ll find UCM graduates with a Manufacturing minor working at Black and Veatch,
Ford, General Electric, Honeywell and many other respected employers. After completing
a bachelor’s degree to round out the Manufacturing minor, some of our graduates continue
their education with an online graduate degree in Industrial Management from UCM.
