What you will study

Gain theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in agriculture as an Agronomy major at the University of Central Missouri. Take Agronomy degree courses at our Warrensburg campus and our nearby university farms, where you’ll have a variety of opportunities to get hands on and prepare for jobs in agronomy.

For example, collect and identify weeds and insects, mix and spray agricultural chemicals and gather and analyze various soils. UCM’s bachelor’s degree program in Agronomy courses include:

Unique learning opportunities in Agronomy courses

As an Agronomy major at the University of Central Missouri, you’ll spend a lot of time in the field. There you’ll prepare for careers in agronomy by building a strong foundation of knowledge and skills in agriculture:

• UCM’s university-owned farms: Agronomy majors spend much of their time at our 110-acre Mitchell Street Farm, handling corn and soybean variety testing, soil testing, forage production testing and vegetable production. You’ll also roll up your sleeves at our 260-acre Prussing Farm, home to our beef cattle herd, swine livestock operations and rotational grazing systems. 
• Agronomy labs: Our labs are filled with dedicated software and other technical programs to help you determine soil moisture and soil bulk density. We also house a dedicated computer lab just for Agriculture and Agronomy majors. 
• Internships: During your time as an Agronomy major, you’ll earn course credit while gaining on-the-job experience with an internship. Work with an agency, business or other organization, locally or nationally. Our students find internships highly valuable as they pursue jobs in agronomy. 
• Field trips and guest speakers: In the UCM Agronomy degree program, you’ll hear from experts who work in Missouri and around the country. You can also connect and network with industry professionals through field trips to agencies and companies.

 

What can you do with an Agronomy degree from UCM?

Part of a growing field, jobs in agronomy are in high demand throughout Missouri and the Midwest.

Expect to find Agronomy degree program graduates working in the private sector with chemical, fertilizer and seed companies. Our graduates also work with government agencies and other organizations as crop consultants, pesticide and fertilizer applicators, research associates or production managers.
