The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act
COBRA provides employees and their qualified beneficiaries the opportunity to continue
health, dental, and/or vision coverage when a qualifying event would normally result
in their loss of eligibility.
Common qualifying events are termination of employment, death of the employee, reduction in hours, a leave of absence, divorce or legal separation, or qualified dependents who no longer meet the eligibility requirements for insurance.
Under COBRA, the employee or beneficiary is responsible for paying the full cost of coverage at the university's group rate, plus an administrative fee. Central Missouri's third party insurance administrator will automatically contact employees who have a qualifying event to provide them with written notice describing their rights and obligations.
