The University of Central Missouri recognizes the occasional need for non-faculty personnel to take an extended leave of absence from the campus. Central Missouri supports the use of administrative leave when the demands of the university permit the non-faculty personnel's absence and when the leave is deemed to be in the best interests of the university.
An administrative leave is a period of absence for up to one year from regular, designated duties. The typical leave, granted under exceptional circumstances, will be less than six months in duration, but may be granted for up to one year. The determination of eligibility for an administrative leave, and approval of the leave, is the responsibility of the applicant's supervisors, the president of the university, and the Board of Governors. Final approval or denial of an administrative leave rests with the Board of Governors.
Administrative leave may be granted in accordance with the following guidelines:
A. A written request for administrative leave must be submitted at least 90 days prior to the start of the proposed leave.
B. A position with the University of Central Missouri must have been held for at least five years prior to the starting date of the leave. The applicant must have completed at least five years of service since the ending date of their last administrative leave.
C. Accrued vacation time, and vacation that will accrue during the leave of absence, will be incorporated as a part of the approved leave.
D. Those on leave may receive up to full salary for the duration of the leave. Effort should be made to secure external fellowship or grant support when taking leave for research or professional development purposes.
E. The applicant must sign a promissory note specifying that they will return to the employ of the university for at least one year after the ending date of their administrative leave, subject to reappointment.
F. Travel expenses may be reimbursed or paid during an administrative leave if the non-faculty personnel is using his/her time for university purposes and meets all university guidelines.
G. Vacation and sick leave will continue to accrue at the normal rate during the period of leave. Administrative leave will be considered uninterrupted service to the university when computing retirement pay and benefits. Administrative leave will not affect benefits status.
