The University of Central Missouri’s (UCM) Board of Governors convened on Dec. 13,
2024, at the main campus in Warrensburg, approving initiatives to enhance academic
programs, align with industry standards, and recognize the contributions of distinguished
faculty and staff.
The board approved the addition of an electrified vehicle systems certificate to the
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program. This 13-credit-hour certificate
prepares professionals and first responders with advanced knowledge of battery-electric,
hybrid, and hydrogen-fueled vehicles. This initiative builds on UCM’s established
leadership in electric vehicle education, stemming from a $600,000 Department of Energy
grant in 2009.
The Design and Drafting Technology program received a new name: Engineering Design
Technology. This change reflects current industry terminology and enhances clarity
for prospective students and employers, ensuring the program remains relevant in the
evolving workforce.
The academic calendar for the 2027-28 through 2029-30 academic years was also approved.
The schedule maintains traditional fall and spring semesters, includes holiday breaks,
and provides multi-term options to align with UCM’s strategic and operational goals
while supporting university-wide planning processes.
New course fees were approved for various programs, including agriculture, engineering,
and agritourism, with additional updates to fees in clinical practice, chemistry,
and apparel design. These changes will take effect in August 2025.
Emeritus status was conferred upon retiring faculty and staff members who have made
lasting contributions to UCM:
- Donald DeBoard (Dec. 16, 2009 – Dec. 31, 2024), coordinator of the ignition interlock
device program.
- Dr. James Graham (May 26, 2000 – Dec. 31, 2024), associate vice president for information
systems and chief information officer.
- Dr. James Loch (Aug. 22, 1994 – Dec. 31, 2024), professor.
- Dr. Sarah (Sally) Zellers (Aug. 14, 2003 – Dec. 31, 2024), professor.
