How will I be notified of my academic standing?
If you remain in good academic standing, you are not contacted by the university. You may check your academic standing at any time in MyCentral and on your unofficial transcript.
If you are placed or continued on probation, suspended, or dismissed, you will be contacted by the University by the Thursday following finals week, after final grades are available. You will receive an e-mail to your UCM e-mail account sent from the Registrar’s Office. A paper letter will not be sent to inform you of your academic standing.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must be an undergraduate who earns 12 or more gradable, undergraduate semester credit hours (9 or more hours during summer semester) of UCM credit with a grade point average (GPA) for the semester of 3.50 or above. Letter grades of P, NC, CR and SC are not graded hours. There is no Dean's List equivalent for graduate students.
Dean's list designation is indicated on both the official and unofficial academic transcript but does not show on a student's online grade report.

Undergraduate students who have both a cumulative GPA and UCM GPA of at least a 2.00 are considered to be in good academic standing. A minimum of a 2.00 is required in both of these GPAs to qualify for graduation. In addition, undergraduate students must maintain a minimum 2.00 in both major and minor required courses.
Some undergraduate majors, minors, and degree programs may require a GPA greater than 2.00 and/or require a grade of C or higher in specific major/minor courses. Students should refer to their Central Degree audit and Undergraduate Catalog for particular major, minor, and degree GPA requirements. What is academic probation?
An undergraduate student whose Central Missouri or cumulative GPA drops below 2.00 will be placed on academic probation. New freshmen who do not meet regular admissions criteria will be placed on academic probation at the time of admission. A transfer student will be placed on academic probation at the time of admission if his/her cumulative GPA is less than 2.00.
Students placed on academic probation may continue to enroll in classes. Students are encouraged to seek advice from their academic advisor about future enrollments. Undergraduate students on academic probation may not enroll in more than 15 semester hours during any Fall and Spring semester of academic probation. Students who are admitted to the University on probation (both freshmen and transfers) must earn a 2.00 GPA during their first semester at UCM to continue enrollment.
How long will I be on probation?
Undergraduate students on academic probation must earn semester GPAs of at least a 2.00 during each semester of academic probation in order to continue at the university. When a student on academic probation raises both their Central Missouri GPA and their cumulative GPA to 2.00 or above, the student is removed from probation.
Once on academic probation, if a student earns a semester GPA below 2.00 he/she will be suspended or dismissed (status depends on prior academic standing) from the university.
Transfer credit will not help to raise the Central Missouri GPA, but will affect the cumulative GPA. Before repeating coursework at another institution, please read the policies governing course repeats.

The reinstatement of undergraduate students who have been or from Central Missouri is not automatic or guaranteed. Petitions will be evaluated by the Success Advising Center with guidance from the academic program of the major requested in the petition. If you are changing majors since your last enrollment, your new major will make the reinstatement decision. Students in the Intensive English Program (IEP) who wish to petition for reinstatement must contact the English Language Center at iep@ucmo.edu. How do I petition for reinstatement?
Undergraduate students can petition for reinstatement by logging into their MyCentral account on the "Reinstatement" card. Students must also complete an application for admissions for the same term as their petition. For the best selection of courses, students should submit a petition in March for summer or fall semester reinstatement and in October for spring semester reinstatement. Petitions will be considered through the following deadlines:
Fall semester: July 15th
Spring semester: November 15th
Summer semester: April 15th
The petition includes a written portion which should include an explanation of the circumstances that led to poor academic performance and an explanation of activities and plans which may lead to improved academic performance in the future. Other substantiating evidence may also be requested. No additional application fee is required. Students must submit transcripts from all colleges attended that are not already on file with UCM, even if classes are in progress. The petition for reinstatement will not be reviewed until all transcripts and an updated application are received by the Admissions office. After a review of the petition, academic records, and any other substantive evidence available, students will be notified of the reinstatement decision.
