The University of Central Missouri's Pharmacy Technician ASHP/ACPE certificate program is an online, self-paced program designed to help you launch a rewarding new career. This program is ideal for individuals who have solid math skills and who enjoy interacting with and helping people. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the need for these professionals is expected to grow by 1,278 over the next five years. Average pay for pharmacy technicians is approximately $31,300. Professionals in this field often have the ability to work within a flexible schedule due to the 24/7 nature of many pharmacies. Approximately 70 percent of pharmacy technicians work in retail settings with close to 13 percent in hospitals. Through this program, students earn an industry-recognized certificate and continuing education units which may not be applied to a degree program and are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Through our program, you will be prepared to earn national certification offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. The national certification increases earning potential, marketability and flexibility. The certification is not required in all states but is considered an advantage in any job search. This valuable online course is offered through Career Step and is one of the few online programs accredited by the ASHP/ACPE. Career Step has been training successful healthcare professionals for more than 25 years and offers a comprehensive program. An advantage of our online course is the 24/7 access to all material, hands-on lab experience and opportunities for an externship at a community pharmacy such as Walgreens or CVS. After learners reach a certain point in the training program, they will be eligible for an externship, subject to availability.
