Aeronautics Certificate

What you will study

The University of Central Missouri’s Aeronautics certificate  program coursework covers topics in aviation's history, present and future. Learn from instructors with a breadth of experience in the aviation industry to better understand current challenges so you’re ready to solve problems right away.

Our Aeronautics certificate includes four courses:

  • Private Ground School: Basic ground school in support of flight training, covering subjects related to radio communication procedures, aerodynamics, weather, navigation and Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Aviation History: Study major events, people and changing technologies in the development of the present day air transportation system.
  • Aviation Law: Get a legal foundation of the federal and state regulatory functions that influence aviation and those who work in the industry.
  • Aviation Safety: Develop a knowledge of contributing factors that affect aviation safety, and learn control methods and techniques to reduce accidents related to aircraft and the aviation field.

Unique learning opportunities in aeronautics

As an Aviation student at UCM, you’ll have access to extensive tools and resources. We operate a regional airport just three miles from our Warrensburg campus, where you’ll supplement your classroom learnings with on-the-ground experience.

  • Private ground school: Complete the same ground training as future pilots at UCM’s Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport. You’ll learn how airplanes fly, the impacts of weather and other aviation-related topics. 
  • Faculty mentorship: Learn from aviation experts with experience in airport management, maintenance, safety and flight instruction who will support and guide you throughout the undergraduate program to ensure you have everything you need to be successful.
  • State-of-the-art facilities: Our School of Aviation owns and operates a fleet of 24 aircraft, ranging from the Cessna 172 Skyhawk to the high-performance Beechcraft B58 Baron, as well as a state-of-the art flight simulation program.
