Construction Management Minor

Do you want to build something from the ground up? By earning a minor in Construction Management at the University of Central Missouri, you’re choosing to learn at the oldest and one of the best Construction Management programs offered by a university in the state of Missouri. What you will study

The Construction Management minor at UCM will provide you with solid business, construction and technical skills that will make you even more marketable in the construction industry. You’ll take five core courses to provide a foundational understanding of construction management and develop your skills in project cost estimating and construction planning and scheduling. You’ll also choose two electives to align with your interests and professional goals, such as:

  • Surveying and Construction Layout

  • Mechanical Systems for Buildings

Unique learning opportunities in construction management

As a UCM student earning a minor in Construction Management, you’ll have access to modern labs and hands-on learning opportunities to give you real-world experience. You’ll learn from expert faculty with experience in the field who will support and guide you to ensure you’re fully prepared for a career in the construction industry:

  • Skill-building labs: As part of your coursework, you’ll engage in lab activities that develop skills and provide experience that you’ll need on the job, such as building a steel structure and scheduling a project using software and hand work.
  • Student competitions: Participate in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Management Competition. Work together with your team to prepare complete estimates, schedules, cash flow projections, cost analysis, site layouts, methodology plans and safety plans based on real-life plans and specifications.
  • Networking opportunities: Connect with peers in the Student Organization of Construction Managers (SOCM), a student-run group that focuses on networking, philanthropy and professional development. Engage in community projects such as maintaining the walking trail bridge at Lion’s Lake and building shade pavilions for dog parks, and attend industry events such as the Building Industry Expo.
