As you learn to teach engineering and technology, expect to apply the in-class instruction you receive in an actual middle school classroom
Your experience will begin on our Warrensburg campus, where our faculty, who are former middle school and junior high teachers, will share proven strategies for teaching engineering and technology in middle schools. You’ll learn to develop curriculum and manage a classroom. You’ll also learn to engage your students as you become an education professional.
Coursework specific to engineering and technology
Prepare to teach your content area with extensive credit hours from UCM’s School of Technology in addition to a Methods of Teaching ETTE course. These classes will prepare you to teach topics such as construction, drafting, material processing and pre-engineering, among others. You can expect to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from UCM and also hold nationally certified pre-engineering program certifications.
In UCM’s Bachelor of Science in Education degree program, you’ll get real-world experience to carry to your future classroom. We believe in hands-on learning and, in your sophomore year, will place you in a middle school or junior high classroom. UCM faculty have developed strong, collaborative relationships with our partner districts. Together, we create meaningful classroom experiences for you. Plan to spend half of each semester in the field until your last semester, when you’ll complete student teaching with the confidence already gained from previous experience.
