What you will study
What is educational studies? UCM’s Educational Studies degree is a “2+2” program that
builds on your associate degree to expand your career and technical competencies.
With a BS in Educational Studies and Training, you can apply coursework toward Career
& Technical Education Temporary Authorization Certification (CTAC) through the Missouri
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) or your own state’s Department
of Education.
You can earn course credit for your work experience in the automotive industry, health
sciences, Registered Apprenticeships, culinary schools, EMT training, the military,
cosmetology and many more. This field is closely related to academic advisor degrees
and career education degrees.
Depending on your interests, you can choose from undergraduate courses in four core
areas:
- Curriculum and Methods: Learn instructional methods and strategies, including reinforcing
effort and providing recognition.
- Methods of Teaching Career and Technical Education: Explore the principles and techniques
of presenting information, giving demonstrations and facilitating student learning.
- Curriculum Design and Assessment: Find out how to use formal and informal assessment
strategies to evaluate student learning and tailor instruction to meet individual
needs.
- Classroom Management and Interactions: Develop authentic and applicable classroom
management knowledge and strategies that enhance and enrich teaching and learning.
UCM’s Career Education degree is part of the only comprehensive Career and Technical
Education (CTE) program in Missouri. In addition to an instructional design course,
the bachelor’s program offers courses across CTE content areas, as well as industry
training areas.
